This is to confirm that Sarah-Jane O’Neill is currently working for me in ‘Take2 Performing Arts School & Casting Agency’. I took SJ on as a temporary dance coach (to cover maternity leave) and was so impressed with her I asked her to stay on as an assistant dance coach, Stage Manager, Production designer...amongst other things!

I have found SJ very easy to work with, she gets on well with the rest of the team & is a asset to Take2.

SJ is creative & works well on her own initiative. She is great with the students & always comes to work with a smile & enthusiasm.

I would be happy to discuss SJ – feel free to contact me on my mobile (please contact via form for number)

"Sarah-Jane O’Neill was great to work with from the get-go. I found her a joy to work with due to her sunshine personality and her being the kind of person to always go above and beyond. If I needed help in an area completely unrelated, she was there for me.
Fostering a relationship was easy as she is open and friendly. This was easy to maintain as she kept me informed as to her progress in ideas and work. She was always reliable and efficient. She was willing to try different design ideas and to be different and imaginative, always in a good way. She readily took on suggestions, while staying true to her own style and visions. She was imaginative and her set design added layers of meaning and significance to the play.
Despite a tight budget Sarah-Jane managed to come up with a costume design that was both full of symbolism and yet highly realistic.
I have since worked with Sarah-Jane in other capacities and would do so again. Not only do I highly recommend Sarah-Jane to anyone, but would be slightly envious of them for getting to work with her."

To whom it may concern,

Reference for Sarah-Jane O’Neill

I had the pleasure of teaching Sarah Jane on her BA(Hons) programme in Drama with Dance since she successfully transferred into second year from her previous college. She has been one of the best students in her year group in terms of both attitude and achievement. I am particularly delighted to have been able to work with her on a project staged at the Waterside and Belfast Children Festivals in May of this year, The Little Box of Wonders

In this project, she was a core member of the team of performers with whom the show was devised, demonstrating command of both the process and the skills to perform the final piece to a very high standard as a member of the ensemble. She was one of only four of the twenty students who auditioned who were cast, and she demonstrated that she has a commitment to working at a professional level throughout, working creatively and enthusiastically at every point. As director, I found her responsive and engaged and someone to whom I could turn at any point and with any suggestion with which she would willingly engage.  She has also undertook workshops with John Wright (John Wright Company), Paul McEneaney (Cahoots NI) and Zoe Seaton (Big Telly Theatre Company) as part of this project, developing her range of devising and ensemble work.

This project undoubtedly helped her to secure further the work she had done in directing modules in years two and three of the programme. In her final year, she directed a one act piece, Kecks, for assessment as well as mounting a version of The Vagina Monologues for the student-run performing arts society.  She also demonstrated a keen sense of the visual dimensions of performance through her design project as part of her final-year Independent Project. This augments her ability to work through movement as developed in Dance and her attention to the verbal in  modules in both Directing and Storytelling.

Sarah-Jane has demonstrated the ability to research and synthesise material in a number of areas. She is able to write to a high standard and to communicate effectively in oral presentations. She is capable of thinking independently to a high standard, identifying and addressing issues and challenges and seeking assistance as appropriate. She is a very effective member of a team and is able to work supportively with others, and, to undertake a leadership role without being domineering. Her quiet authority and ability to separate out tasks into manageable chunks are essential problem-solving skills for the director. She commands the respect of her peers and the staff as one of the natural leaders in her year group, bringing energy, commitment and hard work to all that she does. She is well-organised, always reliable and cheerful.

I commend her to you without reservation. Please contact me if you require a hard copy of this reference. Yours sincerely,

Dr Tom Maguire
